On May 29th, 2024 the Secretariat of the National Contact Point (NCP) of Bulgaria, in the person of Mrs. Gabriela Georgieva and Mrs. Vesela Petrova, took part in the whole table on the topic of familiarization with human rights and building sustainable chains for delivery. The round table brought together representatives of business, national and international services and the non-governmental sector in an open discussion on the topics.
The event was organized by the Bulgarian UN Global Compact Network, in partnership with the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), the Anti-Trafficking Department of the Council of Europe and the German Office for Business and Human Rights to promote of awareness of the role of the private sector in combating human trafficking and labor exploitation.
The roundtable was preceded by yesterday’s conference on “Strengthening the role of the private sector in combating human trafficking and labor exploitation in supply chains”, organized by the National Commission to Combat Human Trafficking, the Anti-Trafficking Department of the Council of Europe and the Office of the Special Representative and Coordinator of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).
During the discussion, the secretariat of the NCP – Bulgaria took part, which presented both the OECD Guidelines for Responsible Business Conduct of Multinational Companies and the OECD Guidelines for Due Diligence of Multinational Enterprises, and in particular the chapter of the OECD Guidelines – “Human Rights”. The framework for the specific recommendations on the respect of human rights by businesses, as well as the possibilities offered by the national contact point mechanism, were touched upon.
